RE: The Speccy reborn

Cool, thanks! I had lots of speccys and was loaned a C64 one summer, but the Amstrad always seemed a poor cousin getting rubbish ports.

Can't decide what my favourite version of HoH was, I prefer the C64s sound chip, but I think the Speccy runs fractionally faster. I think the Amstrad might make this even more confusing because it had more than monochrome graphics.

Recreated ZX Spectrum (not the one that kicked off this thread btw) kickstarter outcome looking dubious:

In December 2013, veteran Britsoft publisher Elite Systems and its director Steve Wilcox announced plans to release a recreated ZX Spectrum primarily for use with its mobile gaming apps.

The Recreated ZX Spectrum looked promising, but after a promotional push in 2015 that sparked the interest of the likes of Sky News and Stuff magazine, Elite Systems went quiet - leaving some who pledged to the Kickstarter but have yet to receive their devices out of pocket.

I remember when I left my Speccy in Australia for the younger kids to have, it was the first console with bugs,

Not computer bugs, but little multi-coloured hairy things living around the heat sink. Ugh!

My old man fumigated it with a smoke gun (his answer to everything  to combat the Australian bush's insect life) and it did not work right after that

He even smoke gun-ed his bed once, with my mother still in it

Sir Clive Sinclair’s ZX Spectrum Vega+ portable will be out this October

A new portable version of the classic Speccy computer will be released next month, with 1,000 games and a £100(ish) price tag.

After raising over £350,000 in crowdfunding from retro lovin’ games fans, the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+ will be released on October 20, although that’s only for those that actually backed its IndieGoGo campaign.

I bought a Recreated ZX Spectrum this last week, it's quite good!

Remotely not worth the ridiculous price it was retailing for (£99?) or even the kickstarter backer price (£50?), but £36 on Amazon already unlocked and including delivery (third party seller, no Prime required) and it was hard to say no.

It literally is just a bluetooth keyboard, but a few emulators fully support it now so as long as it's been unlocked it works nicely with Fuse! My Macbook becomes the monitor effectively. ;)

No, it's a bluetooth keyboard. You can save games on your laptop/PC tho? :) It's possible an Android emulator will work with it in time, I didn't look.

Sorry, not sure if you misunderstood me.  My pet hate with some of the old games is that you could never save them and just had to start again from the beginning.

Pretty much any emulator supports saving snapshots. Most can read snapshots from each other too. Even MAME supports this if you wanted to do it for arcade games (maybe practising a later level or something).

These days you can even buy an interface for the real machine that supports snapshotting the machine state for reload later (kind of like the old Multiface units but without saving to tape or disc, directly to an SD card), if you wanted that. :)

I actually wrote a utility that would take emulator snapshots and convert them into a format you could copy to a Microdrive cartridge and then load into the real machine too, if you wanted to go really old school.

But just to re-iterate, this has nothing to do with the Recreated ZX Spectrum bluetooth keyboard, it's a feature of the emulators you need to run on your PC/laptop/tablet.

Aye, appreciate the heads up.  |Not sure if I prefer connecting the bluetooth keyboard to my kindle or looking at the handheld version...

*edit* just bought the Vega+ for £100
